Masculinity is manly character. It specifically describes men and boys, that is personal and human, unlike male which can also be used to describe animals, or masculine which can also be used to describe noun classes. When masculine is used to describe men, it can have degrees of comparison—more masculine, most masculine. The opposite can be expressed by terms such as unmanly, epicene or effeminate. A typical near-synonym of masculinity is virility (from Latin vir, man); and the usual complement is femininity.

Why is masculine when it refers to Mary?
Q. Is it grammatically masculine? Could it not be ? Is that ungrammatical? Is it to do with agent nouns being masculine in PIE?

A. First of all you must look at the stem of the word, if the stem ends in an alpha or eta then it is feminine, although your word is masculine, it is not a masculine concept.

Why do some people find it hard to imagine masculine gay couples?
Q. Even though we both live in a pretty anti-homophobic area, people still find it really weird when me and my spouse show affection. Loads of people say if one of us were effeminate then it wouldn't seem weird, but both of us are quite masculine. We now actually have a well structured conversation we've developed to tell people not only we're a couple, but gay in the first place. Why do some find this weird? Is it because gay men are expected to be effeminate, while neither of us are? Or is there something I'm missing?

A. People think that it is hard to imagine because, the stereotype is that all gays are femine and act like chicks 24/7 which is not really the case. But, the media likes to dictate and make things seem worse then what they really are. All I got to say is just brush your shoulders off and stop listening to the ignorant people that keep dissing you.

What is a twink and what type of guys do the manly masculine gay men go for?
Q. What do they exactly mean a twink? Base on my own understanding a twink is someone who is tall, thin without any muscles. Will a person still consider a twink if he got some muscles but not a lot? Usually masculine gay men go for which type of guys?

A. A twink is a guy who is usually under the age of 23 or so, thin, a bit feminine/preppy, cute. He would still be a twink if he was toned but not "jock-like." Masculine gay men are hard to classify. I'm considered masculine, and I tend to go for brainy guys - nerds I guess. Our tastes are all very different and vary from person to person, in my experience.
