From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Standing is a human position in which the body is held upright and supported only by the feet, referred to as an orthostatic state. Although quiet standing appears to be static, modern instrumentation shows it to be a process of rocking from the ankle in the sagittal plane. The sway of quiet standing is often likened to the motion of an inverted pendulum. Standing at attention is a military standing posture, as is stand at ease, but these terms are also used in military-style organisations and in some professions which involve standing, such as modeling. At Ease refers to the classic military position of standing with legs slightly apart, not in as formal or regimented a pose as standing at attention. In modeling, model at ease refers to the model standing with one leg straight, with the majority of the weight on it, and the other leg tucked over and slightly around. ControlStanding posture relies on dynamic rather than static balance. The human center of mass is in front of the ankle, and unlike tetrapods, the base of support is narrow, consisting of only two feet. A static pose would cause humans to fall forward onto the face. In addition, there are constant external perturbations, such as breezes, and internal perturbations that come from respiration. Erect posture requires adjustment and correction. A standing wave is made in this case by the wave reflecting and making it all the way back to where it started (see a nifty animation i linked below). This means that if we know the velocity of the wave, and the distance it must travel (6.0 meters because it must travel the 3m to the wall AND back to be a standing wave). If the situation is very bad, I start writing a letter. But all and all i try not to be in that type of situation. I don't like feeling uncomfortable. Q. I've heard that standing in front of a microwave causes radiation. And can cause permanent damage to your health in the future. Is that true? And if it is, what health hazards can it cause?
